September 13, 2010 This is a message from the current District Governor where San Bruno is located. Good afternoon fellow Rotarians: Well, in the midst of some absolute horror there is some good. First, that the loss of life and homes was less than it might very well have been if it had not been for all the first responders who flew into action quickly. I am sure that many of you did as we did: watch the awful scene develop before our eyes on the television. Thanks go to the courageous fire fighters and all of the other safety officers who contributed to the saving of lives and property. Second, that it appears that all Rotarians are safe - though some with damage and even loss of homes - but safe and alive. That is a blessing in itself. We now have the plan for our district to assist in the rebuilding of the area and the lives of the Rotarians and friends who live in our district and have been so affected by this disaster. Please go to our District Website: www.rotary5150.org and you will find some information about San Bruno. You can just click on the "Donate" button and donate money to the relief fund for San Bruno. If you would prefer to send a check, please them to: Rotary District 5150 Charitable Foundation c/o Jim Botko, Treasurer, 3006 Topaz Dr., Novato, CA 94945. We are appointing a committee of Rotarians from San Bruno, Millbrae, South San Francisco and Burlingame to administer the funds and make sure that 100% of your contributions will be tax-deductible, and spent to assist the victims of the fire. Exactly how the money will be spent will be decided as the needs become apparent. Some suggestions have come in already including rebuilding the park that has been destroyed - making it a special place for both adults and kids, and several other ideas. Another thing that you can do to help is donate blood. They can really use it. I will keep you all posted as to what is happening. Thanks for being the caring Rotarians you are. Bill William A.
