National Immunization Day in Ludhiana
A week before departure I learned that my classmate, District Governor 2006-07 for District 3070 had been officially selected. His name is Romesh Rana, and he is from Ludhiana, a big industrial city 5-hour drive away to the South of Dharamsala. I contacted him, and we arranged for me to stay one night in his house on my way back to Delhi. You can see him on the left with his wife at the breakfast table.

The last day, November 21, was also a National Immunization Day (NID) in India, so I got to spend that day in Ludhiana and participate to my second NID. I was interviewed by the local television, gave some drops, cut a ribbon to open a booth, etc. India is one of the last countries left with Polio. India had the most cases in the world 2 years ago, but the numbers really dropped last year due to the ongoing efforts to immunize all children. Rotary is providing financial support, but also the network of Rotarians to gather the population and distribute the vaccine. It is a great privilege to have been able to take a small part in this outstanding action by Rotary, the World Health Organization, and UNICEF.
